It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our friend and longtime band member, Bob French. He always had a smile, a kind word, a mean trumpet. And sometimes, he had a parrot on his shoulder.
Bob’s dad, Tubby, was a founding member of the band and Bob’s brother John was also long-time member. For many years, the three of them sat together every Monday night to lead the trumpet section. We miss them immeasurably.
Bob was born on October 13, 1943 and passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017. He was a resident of Elizabethtown. He graduated from St. Xavier High School, Bellarmine University, the University of Montana and the University of Louisville. Captain French retired from the U.S. Air Force and Hardin County Schools.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday after 10:30 a.m. at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home funeral home in Elizabethtown. Members of the Holy Name Band will have a brief memorial for Bob during the Friday visitation at 7:00.
The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home, in Radcliff, KY with Rev. Neil Janes and Rev. John Vaught officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff with military honors.
